HOW TO NEGOTIATE THE PRICE YOU DESERVE: Paramus, NJ - September 24, 2003 - As corporations have continued to downsize, and as the economy still struggles to recover, many laid off workers and former corporate employees have turned to freelancing as an employment alternative. Whether someone is just beginning a stint as a freelancer or whether the freelancer is already a seasoned veteran, the issue of quoting prices can be tricky at best. How can you command the best price for your time and work? How can you make sure your fees are competitive with others in your industry? What price is too high and what is too low? For answers to these and other pricing strategy issues, NJ Creatives (also known as the Self-employed Writers and Artists Network), has invited Bob Bly, noted author, consultant and seminar facilitator, to share his successful pricing strategies. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at the Bergen Museum of Art and Science, Bergen Mall, lower level. Networking begins at 7:15 p.m. and the meeting and program begin at 7:45 p.m. Admission is free for members and $8 at the door for guests.
Bly, the author of 50 books, among them, Secrets of a Freelance Writer, Targeted
Public Relations, and Selling Your Services, understands that negotiating fees
can be one of the most difficult aspects of self-employment. "When prospects
really want you and only you, price is no object. But when they're shopping
around and consider you 'just another vendor,' it can be difficult to negotiate
premium fees."
Begun in 1984 by three freelance professionals who wanted to exchange ideas and
referrals, NJ Creatives (also known as the Self-employed Writers and Artists
Network) has grown into a successful non-profit, dues-paying organization that
boasts a diverse and ever-increasing membership of talented professionals.
Members include writers, designers of both print and web media, illustrators,
photographers, video producers and public relations specialists. To insure a
high level of quality for clients, every applicant's portfolio of work must
first be evaluated by NJ Creatives before membership is approved. # # # |
