RENOWNED CARTOONIST TO SHARE BUSINESS INSIGHTS ON THE COMIC BOOK INDUSTRY, OFFER POINTS ON ARTISTRY AND MORE…
To Fernando Ruiz, of Archie Comics fame, comic books, graphic novels and sequential storytelling have been part of American culture for the better part of a century. While the super hero genre dominates the medium, Archie Comics and their lovesick ginger headed teenager has been holding a place and a niche in the world of comic books.
Artist Fernando Ruiz has been holding his place in Archie Comics for almost two decades now. When not entertaining fans of Jughead, Betty and Veronica, he is teaching other “followers of Jack Kirby” had to bring life to paper, via pen and pencil at the Joe Kubert School for Comics and Cartooning in Dover.
The insights he shares about his life as a creative professional are relevant for all those engaged in creative and artistic enterprises.
On May 25, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Mr. Ruiz is coming to Fairfield, NJ to teach future comic book creators about the industry, offer points on artistry and just have fun.
He said just as he was inspired by Jack Kirby, Neal Adams and Steve Ditko before, he wants to inspire the next crop of comic book artists.
“The world of comic books needs news creators. One day another generation of comic book artists will be carrying the torch…um…pencil…pen, whatever. You know what I mean,” he said with a laugh.
“I invited everyone to come out and have a blast,” he said. “I know comic book fans, art fans will have a fun time while learning the finer points of comics.”
